46 Relationship Check-In Questions

A check-in is a short, regular conversation about how the two of you are doing. It is not a performance review and it is not a fight in disguise. Done well, it catches small frustrations before they harden and gives you a dependable moment to say thank you.

The questions below are grouped from easy to more searching. Start with appreciation, move to what felt off, and finish with what each of you needs next. Some questions are for after a disagreement, when you both want to repair but are not sure where to begin.

Questions people ask

How often should couples do a check-in?

Weekly works well for many couples because issues stay small. A longer monthly check-in can cover bigger themes like money, plans and intimacy.

What if a check-in turns into an argument?

Pause and agree to come back to it later. Using one of the repair questions once you have both cooled down usually helps more than pushing through.

Can these questions replace couples therapy?

No. They help with everyday upkeep, but they are not a substitute for professional support. If either of you feels afraid, controlled or unsafe, please reach out to a qualified counsellor or a domestic violence helpline.
